Tide Microfluidics is proud to announce we are through to the final of the Humanimal – One Health Innovation Challenge 2015. We are among the nine finalists in the three catorgories for this prestigious prize from One Health and the Dutch province Flevoland! More information over the challenge can be found here.
During the Innovation for Health event, on Thursday 5th February, Tide won the AXON innovation for Health Award 2015. Innovation for Health is the premier Dutch healthcare innovation event, held annually in the RAI in Amsterdam. Tide received the €2,500 AXON voucher for our pitch highlighting our innovative technology.
We are pleased to announce the launch of Tide’s MicroSphere Creator! During the European symposium of ultrasound contrast imaging we took the opportunity to showcase our new production system. The MicroSphere Creator is designed for microbubble and microdroplet production with precision control and inline monitoring. This plug and play system finally gives you the freedom to create your own monodisperse microspheres from a large variety of fluids in a sterile and user friendly process.
Tide Microfluidics has been nominated for the final six of “de Rode Loper van Twente”. This red carpet event acknowledges the success of all the companies, individual and organisations in the Twente region during the past year. In 2014 the Twente region saw 22 companies and organisation awarded national and international prizes. On the 12th January in the Rabobank theatre Hengelo the final six will give presentations and one of them will be chosen by the public as the Top ambassador for Twente of 2015. Tide Microfluidics is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a European Union Horizon2020 SME Instrument phase 1 grant. This subsidy consists of a 70% contribution of €50,000 from the EU. We will be using this prestigious grant to further develop our business model for a bedside ultrasound contrast agent production apparatus and continue to grow our company.
Last Sunday Tide was given the opportunity to explain our business proposition and product to the general public on De Ondernemersclub. Bernd Vinke talked to business programme De Ondernemersclub, broadcasted by Dutch television station RTL7, during a insightful debate over start-ups and big industry working together. Tide proved to be the strongest contender during the Young Technology Award at the American conference on the commercialisation of Micro- and Nanotechnology, COMS2014, in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. Tide won the First prize of $5000 from the jury of international experts as well as picking up the Public prize of $500. The jury was unanimous in their decision, they stated that Tide not only showed an innovative technology, but also had clear real world relevance in helping to solve pressing needs within the healthcare system. Tide Microfluidics is proud to announce our new joint initiative with Health Innovation Park Zwolle. As part of this relationship Tide has received a strategic financial investment from Regio Zwolle Incubator fund. This makes Tide the first company to receive support of the fund created by Isala hospital, Rabobank IJsseldelta and the province Overijssel. We are looking forward to building strong relations with Isala hospital and other key partners from the Zwolle region that we meet as part of this exciting opportunity.

On July 1st 2014 Tide Microfluidics had the honour to participate in the opening ceremony of the Amsterdam stock exchange, together with the other winners of New Venture 2014: Fleetcleaner, Planesandtrains and Sigma Screening. We are pleased to announce that we successfully took a runner-up prize of €5000 from the New Venture Challenge. Tide Microfluidics received a € 25,000 STW Valorisation Grant first phase for the validation of a monodisperse microbubble generator.

On the 3rd April Tide Microfluidics had the honour of showcasing our platform technology to his majesty King Willem-Alexander during his inaugural visit to the Gallery. His majesty took time out of his busy schedule to hear about the latest technical developments of a select group of start-up companies based in the Gallery incubator, of which Tide Microfluidics was one, after the official opening ceremony.
On 26th February we took the Tide showcase system to Prof. Dr. Hessel Wijkstra, Dr. Massimo Mischi and colleagues from the Signal Processing Systems group of the Technical University Eindhoven. We successfully showed our system was capable of producing microbubbles that are stable for more than 30 minutes of continuous ultrasound excitation. This is illustrated by the clear visualisation of microbubble vortices in a water bath shown in the accompanying photograph. These exciting results exceeded all expectations and haveopened up new avenues for future work.
In partnership with Veterinair Kenniscentrum Oost Nederland (VKON),the Center for Medical Imaging: North East Netherlands (CMI-NEN) and Echo-X veterinary practice we have carried out an initial pilot study into the use of ultrasound contrast agents for animal health. The results have been very encouraging and pave the way for further investigations, more information can be found here.
We are pleased to announce that the system validation for our latest generation of microbubble production platform has given consistently monodisperse microbubbles at extremely high production rates. We can deliver production rates of around half a million microbubbles per second in a single device while maintaining a monodisperse size distribution. This enables us to produce accurately defined dispersions in high volumes. Please contact us to see how we can help improve your products.
We are now validating and testing the new generation of our platform technology. This new system gives us the capability to produce our accurately defined micron sized uniform microbubbles in volumes suitable for all our customer’s needs.
We are pleased to announce that, as of 1st April 2013, Tide Microfluidics has moved to a new location. The company now has dedicated laboratory and office facilities within the Gallery building on the University of Twente campus. The Gallery offers room for growth and innovation for young companies, making it the ideal location for Tide.
Tide Microfluidics has recently been awarded a NanolabNL voucher by the NanolabNL foundation. This is a €7,500 voucher giving companies access to the specialised cleanroom facilities within the cooperative consortium of research institutes. We acknowledge NanolabNL for this constructive support and look forward to visiting the cleanrooms of MESA+.
